Service providers' key expectations from 5G and toward 6G era are to successfully manage the immense traffic growth and leverage mobile networks to support new use cases. To put the expectations into concrete numbers – the projections say that 5G subscriptions will reach 1 billion, and the average monthly usage per smartphone will surpass 15 GB by the end of this year and then grow to 40 GB by the end of 2027. As mid-band brings the potential of high capacity to explore new use cases with high bandwidth demand, new considerations appear on how to get the most out of 5G in Cloud RAN, impacting service providers' strategy of designing their 5G networks and selecting the best RAN processing option. Is venture funding already back? - TechCrunch

Image
Despite continuing talk about a possible recession, slumping tech stocks and a slowdown in the world of startup investing, the business of funding was positively humming last week. After slowing way down last spring, venture outfits disclosed a stunning $8 billion in new capital commitments in the span of just five days. Consider the following: NEA revealed that it closed its two newest funds adding up to $6.2 billion; Cowboy Ventures announced two funds totaling $260 million; and FJ Labs also disclosed two funds totaling $260 million. Then there's Sapphire Sport (it closed a second fund of $181 million), Volition Capital (it announced $675 million for its fifth fund), Kearny Jackson ($14 million) and Dimension ($350 million). Even non-U.S. outfits got into the act, including Highland Europe, which announced a new €1 billion fund, and a Japanese chemical giant that revealed a $100 million fund. So what's going on exactly? Are ...

Marketers weigh the cons of working with Google Ad Manager amid Justice Department’s new lawsuit - Digiday

Image
It might be difficult for advertisers to turn their backs on Google completely but it's getting a lot easier for them to look away these days. Antitrust challenges from the U.S. Department of Justice tend to have that sort of effect — especially when there's a bigger than usual chance that this one could actually subvert Google's influence over ad dollars. It's Google's most serious antitrust challenge to date. Not only is it anchored to a real harm — the fact that Google's ads business has foisted a heavy tax on struggling digital publishers — it also outlines how this behavior has hurt users.  The latter point harks back to Sections 1 and 2 of The Sherman Act, articles the DOJ along with eight Attorneys General filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia in a 139-page lawsuit last week. Here's the short version: Google's sell-side tools are the target. The DoJ is demanding divestiture of Go...

Apartment project will bring new rentals to Garland - The Dallas Morning News

Image
Developers have lined up $63 million in funding for a new Garland apartment community. Anthem Development is building the 340-unit Lofts iThirty rental project north of Interstate-30. Debt and equity financing for the 10-acre development was arranged by Los Angeles-based Nova Capital for Anthem Development, a Beck Ventures Co. "We were able to close on the financing during a period of volatility in the economy and capital markets where other groups are having difficulty getting their projects financed, especially development deals," Steven Yazdani, Managing Director of Nova Capital, said in a statement. "As the market continues to evolve, financing deals will be more difficult as many lenders are on the sidelines and/or providing conservative financing terms. "Equity groups and lenders are being very conservative with their underwriting assumptions and cautious with new investments." Anthem Development has a track record of apa...

Anna Pineda runs an education business that helps scientists to be more productive and to improve their writing skills. Credit: Pilar Pineda Today is the end of the financial quarter, and I'm at my home office processing invoices for my accountant. In a few weeks, I'll hear how much value-added tax I need to pay for my business activities. Five years ago, I had no idea about any of this. I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology in Wageningen, pursuing a career path that ends with a professorship. I'd constantly be immersed in the struggles of data analysis, or anxiously awaiting a manuscript decision. Back then, I didn't look at the year in terms of financial quarters. Now, I run an education business, 'I focus and write', helping other scientists to improve their productivity and writing skills. It all started when I was failing to find a -tenure-track position. After wondering during my postdoctoral p...

Image
Accord, a collaboration platform designed to support business-to-business (B2B) sales, today announced that it raised $10 million in Series A funding from Matrix Partners, Nat Friedman and Y Combinator. CEO Ross Rich says that the new funds, which bring Accord's total raised to $17 million, will be put toward the startup's engineering, sales and marketing teams. Accord was co-founded in early 2020 by brothers Ross and Ryan Rich. Ross was one of the first salespeople at Stripe back in 2015, while Ryan was an early sales hire at Google Cloud. The brothers say that they discovered the challenges of modern B2B sales firsthand as their teams scaled from a handful of reps to thousands on the go-to-market team. "We started Accord to solve frustrating challenges in B2B sales," Ross told TechCrunch in an email interview. "Customers don't want to talk to sellers. B2B buyers have been conditioned by the business-to-consumer, Amazon-...

Three Approaches To Digital Marketing—And How To Choose What's Best For Your Brand In 2023 - Forbes

Image
Molly Baker, CEO & Founder of Indie Consulting . As we begin 2023, I can confidently say that digital marketing is now just "marketing." This blurs the lines between funnel objectives and channel selection, increases the ever-growing need for a variety of digital content and demands an always-on approach to measuring the art and science that is marketing today. In the aftermath of the big boom of direct-to-consumer brands and marketplaces, along with their accompanying marketing tactics (think Facebook advertising), I am seeing a refocus on the importance of brand awareness and upper-funnel tactics. While it plays an important role in any brand's marketing mix, performance lower-funnel marketing is not the single key to growth. As the founder of a marketing consulting company, and in studying how brands are approaching this matrixed ecosystem, I have identified three widely used approaches. Approach No. 1: The Performance Model ' I've...
